Bloom Companion is an educational and personal tracking tool. It does not replace the advice of your doctor, midwife, or pediatrician. If you ever feel something is wrong, call your care team or 911 right away. Tracker entries live on this screen while the page is open, so jot down anything you need to keep.

When should I head in? The 5-1-1 guide

Many providers suggest heading to your birth place, or calling your care team, when contractions are about 5 minutes apart, lasting 1 minute each, for 1 hour. Always follow the guidance your own provider or midwife gave you, and call sooner if your water breaks, you see bleeding, baby is moving less, or anything feels wrong. When in doubt, call. That is what your team is there for.

What your pediatrician loves to hear

In the first week, look for at least one wet and one dirty diaper on day one, building up to about 6 or more wet diapers and 3 to 4 stools a day by day five, and roughly 8 to 12 feeds in 24 hours. Every baby has their own rhythm. If feeds drop off, diapers slow down, or baby is hard to wake to eat, call your pediatrician the same day.

    Islamiyyah Jenmi

Certified full spectrum birth and postpartum doula

Founder of Bloom Perinatal Services. Islamiyyah is a mother of three with a master’s degree and more than 13 years spent supporting families, with a background in healthcare. She founded Bloom Perinatal Services after seeing the gap in care for mothers, especially in the Black community, where too many women never even hear that doulas exist.

Her promise is simple. You will be heard, you will be respected, and you will not do this alone. Care, support, and empowerment, every step of the way.
